Edukans Learning Circle
Edukans took the initiative to set-up this digital exchange pilot between PTC-students in Netherlands and Uganda. The pilot will take place by using the method of the ‘Learning Cycle’: A Learning Cycle is setup by a team of 10-12 classes/groups that create a temporarily learning environment. The groups remain together over a 3 month period working in 6 phases on projects drawn from the curriculum of each of the classrooms organized around a selected theme. The theme of this learning cycle will be “Education in the 21st century”.

Facilitation
The training sessions in Soroti (March 7-15 2009) and Amersfooort (April 2 2009) and the Learning Circle “Education in the 21st century” will be facilitated by The Round Table.
The Round Table - Eliane Metni and Bob Hofman - also coordinate The Global Teenager Project

Target group
The Learning Circle is based upon the Twinschools approach; participants are from two countries – Uganda and The Netherlands and focuses on ‘Pabo students’, primary education “teachers to be” from teacher training institutes in The Netherlands and Uganda.
There are 12 ‘classes/groups’ in this Learning Circle; each class consists of 4-8 students:

Uganda - six Learning Circle groups from Soroti PTC
A regular class might be divided in several groups.

The Netherlands - six Learning Circle groups from 3 Pabo’s
Groenewoud-Nijmegen, Stenden – Leeuwarden en Avans Breda

Why?
Edukans and The Round Table want to pilot this methodology of the Learning Circle in tertiair Education to see if it creates an added value and more depth to Edukans Education Experience (EEE). The goals are the following:

Digital exchange between PTC students in the Netherlands and Uganda
To involve Dutch youth with development work in a very concrete manner
  To promote ‘Global citizenship’
To deepen EEE (Edukand Educational Experiences), and possibly other campaigns
To enrich to preparation towards EEE, in Uganda as well in Holland.
Learning by doing and using ICT as a tool in collaborative learning
To find how a Wiki can be used in international collaboration.

PTC Soroti is enthusiastic about this pilot. PTC Soroti has received EEE several times now, they see this as a way to let EEE be more for their students than a short (2-days) visit. Besides this they feel this will enhance the computer competence of their students.

Dear Friends in Soroti, it's good to see that the first notification emails have arrived.

This means that you are actullay using the wiki, wonderful!!

All Dutch students are registerd and have access to the wiki, the Learning Circle workshop will be Thursday evening April 2nd in the city of Amersfoort.
Maybe it's a nice idea to add some welcome messages from Soroti ion the Sandbox page (see sidebar). Best, Bob
