Learning Circle Education in the 21st Century

News 7: Summaries….

Week 8-9: Monday June 8th  – Sunday June 21st  2009

We hope all is well and we welcome you, according to the timeline  to the next phase of the Learning Circle.

Yet before summarising we ask you to add the 10 last missing answers ASAP, see overview below.

Unfortunately we also have some sad new to share; last Wednesday, June 8th, the mother of our facilitator Mrs Ria Kattevilder passed away.

On behalf of all of you we pray her soul may rest in peace and hope dear memories remain

The fact that Ria yesterday still took time to create the LC overview shows her dedication as Learning Circle facilitator.

Ria we thank you, wish you strength and are with you in our minds.

Now back to the Summaries.

This 2-week phase is meant for organizing, summarizing and reflecting on the information received.

The students write a summary and create a publication which is based upon the summary and which shows a higher level of in-depth analysis of the result.

This Publication can be also a digital presentation of their choice (a website, a PowerPoint-presentation, an audio-video-presentation).

This process requires you as students to develop strategies for examining and summarizing the received information.

It is not informative enough to just cut, past and list all the responses; A narrative summary of the responses is far more effective.

To compare the responses from all classes will help you to understand the relationships between the answers given.

A general format for reviewing the responses might be to address the following questions:

1. Why did we ask the question?

2. What did we know about the theme when we started?

3. What did we learn in our classroom?

4. What did we expect to learn?

5. What did we learn from the responses of the students?

6. What were the differences in the different countries?

7. Why do we think these differences exist?

8. What are the consequences of the differences for a country?

We wish you success in the two week ahead and we looking forward reading your contributions….

The next LC-news will be posted on Sunday June 14th

That’s all for this week, enjoy the Circle work, we looking forward reading your extended contributions….
