NL3- Name of school, city, country

Summary

Hello everyone,

Thanks for your answers. The student in Uganda and in the netherlands think the children has to be treaded on the same way. But in practice it's sometimes different.

I think it is very important to make sure, as a teacher, that your lessons are interesting to listen to. When your lessons are interesting for the children, they will listen very good en behave themselves. A long time ago, the teacher hit the children when they don’t listen. For now, this is successful forbidden. I don’t think it will help when the teacher hits some children. There are many other ways to punish the children. An example is to give them extra homework or have a good conversation with this child about his behaviour. I also think that is it for a teacher very important to react always positive to a child!

We notice that children here in Holland become more and more brutal. The distance between teacher and the children gets smaller. Children do not often show respect to the teacher. We believe that this can be improved in the 21th century, because we believe that everything can be improved! Children are being confronted with their behaviour by the teacher. He/she ignores the negative behaviour and react to the positive behaviour. If you ignore the negative behaviour, the child knows that he/she will not get attention. If you reward the positive behaviour, the child knows he/she will get attention. We believe that this is the way how we can improve the confrontation with the children and their behaviour.

When children are not motivated or are disturbing the lesson they have to be confronted with their behavior. In the past, a very long time ago, the teachers hit the children. For now on, this is forbidden. At most of the time we as teachers warn the children at three times. Are the children going further with the behavior we will punish the children, just like to give them extra homework or something like that. Sometimes we remove the child out of the classroom or letting him/she inside when the children have break outside. It’s very important to punish the children on the good way. We learn at our school that we as teachers have to ignore the negative behavior en react on the positive behavior,  we compliment the children by positive behavior. When children disturb a lesson, teachers have to interfere immediately because the relation between teachers en children becomes smaller. That’s not always positive, in our opinion, because the children have to know that a teacher is a teacher and not a ordinary friend!

It is important that every child is treated on his/her way. Every child and also teacher is different.

At the playground you speak face to face with the children. If they don’t listen you have to send them away.

Bud! It’s very important to give the children a positive response on what they do. In Holland we support the children which are working on the right way. This is important for the environment. If there is a good environment there are less problems.

Now a days the children getting lessons in what they think is interesting. We look at the individual child and help him/her. They dare to say more then for example 50 years ago. This is because teacher and child are more next to each other. But, the child has to show some respect to the teacher and al the other people who are around him/her.

The way children are treated is improved, but it’s always in for improvement.

It’s also a fact that the children on some places are treated on the wrong the way. The teachers getting lessons in how to tread the children, but in practice it’s different. They punish the children on the wrong way, but they know how it has to be. The relationship teacher/child is at a moment like that not good. And after that still isn’t. because of this the environment is not good and because of that the problems are bigger/more.

If a child is brutal the parents play a part in the education and upbringing.

At this moment children have different emotional feeling about education, but it can still fit education in the 21St century. This can also be improved by guiding and counselling the learners about the importance of education, and this is normally done by teachers since they were trained to mould the character of their learners. At times some teachers also tend to Scar the learners when they failed to listen to them, this can also make some learners to have negative attitudes towards learning, therefore teachers are advice at least to have  teacher pupils relationship in order to make learners develop interest in learning.

Children are confronted with there behaviour in the following ways:

Watching movies. Children like to watch movies and also exercise them on others. By doing this, children are subjected to criminal cases like fighting, rape, fornication and other things.

Political instability. Children who lived in the areas affected by war also like to exercise some dubious acts that they saw bieng done during the war.

Smoking. most of the children smoke because of pear influence and recognition but they don't know it's negative effect on their lives.

Drinking alcohol. Alcohol makes one lose self control and ones one loses control, he or she is subjected to several crimes.

Styles of dressing. Most of the children today have resorted to the type of dressing which is abroad and yet the dressing code depends on the type of culture one lives in so in this way, children have violated their cultures by adapting other styles of dressing which are not from their culture. Most of these styles are purposely to attract men and women.

The above can be improved by:

Sensitisation of children to help them understand the negative effects of alcohol, smoking in human beings.

Less exposure to bad movies. Some parents like to watch movies together with their children. This give children encouragement to watch movies so to avoid that, parents should avoid exposing their children to bad movies.

Ensuring political stability. This is the role of the government and the citizens

The way children are treated in the classroom can be improved. This is not always as easy as it looks like. There are some things that are in relationship with the behaviour in the classroom. Like the parents, environment and the street life. It is important that now a days the teachers are creating a good relationship with the students. This is possible with positive reactions. Give the student that are working hard compliment, the other students want that to. Positive reaction is important for the environment. In a good environment are less problems and the students get the opportunity to work on their own level.

On some places the teachers know how is has to be, but in practice they can not show it. This is in for improvement.

All the teachers are getting lessons in how to tread a child in the class room.

See you all very soon!!

Summary

Dear friends,

We thank you a lot to answer our question. We like to read the question because we don’t know what we can expect. To our surprise, the answers are really the same.

The students in the Netherlands and the students in Uganda were coming to the same thing about how we can keep our students motivated and our lessons engaging, in a world which is so competitive with the class room.

Both of the students are giving the answer to keep the children motivated by different, defiant materials. This will keep the children motivated because it isn’t boring for them. Children want to work with materials. The materials have to appeal to them, because when that does children wants to work more with the materials and they learn more by that.

The other side, we as teachers has to give the children positive feedback. We have to approach them positive. This will also motivated the children because children want a compliment of a teacher, this works very motivated.

Children have to be independent, in different schools there are systems for this. Some schools are using colours, like green and red. The greenside means that children can work together and ask question to each other. The red side means that children have to work alone and do their own work.  This system sees that children will be independent and work by themselves or work together.

Other schools are using rules, like a ‘stop sign’. When the sign is on the red side, children may not ask questions to the teacher or to other classmates, children have to do it by themselves. When the sign is on the green side, children may ask questions to the teacher and other classmates. Both systems are stimulation the independent of the children but also the social side, to work together.

The impact of ICT on the pupils is very important. The students in the Netherlands and the students in Uganda are giving both the answer that ICT motivated children. In the Netherlands is the impact huge, because the classrooms have two or more computers to availability. In Uganda is this different. Some schools have the opportunity to computers but other schools in deep villages do not. But except this, all the students are coming to the same thing that ICT is interested and motivated very well, for teachers and children!

Once again, thank you very much to your answers and we looking forward to meet you in two weeks!

Greats, Nikki and Laura

Well done friends,we have received all your responses to bark on our question but the following shows us what we expected from that question:

           The learning environment.

:           For effective teaching and learning to take place, there is need to make the classroom talking where educative charts, messages and other things are displayed and the learning area should be free from disruption.

            Methods of teaching.

Our methods of teaching should be improved to ensure that learners are put at the centre of the learning process where they have to contribute and participate fully in the learning process. We call these child centered methods of teaching.

             The use of instructional materials.

There is need to involve instructional materials in our lessons to aid learning and understanding in the learners.

Learning should be more of practical work.

Learners should also be given a lot of practical work than theory because what is learnt by doing takes time in the child's memory and aids memory of the learner. This type of education is called vocationalisation of education.

               Teacher-learner relationship.

Learning takes place when learners freely interact with a teacher. This can be done when a teacer establishes good relationship with learners.

                Consideration of learners abilities.

The teacher should handle his learners considering their differences todo any work the are given as there are slow learners and faster learners, disabled and others.

                  School infrastructure.

The school infrastruture should also be improved inform of classrooms so that lessons are not interupted or disorganised by rain, sunshine, wind etc.

                     The communication medium.

The teacher should establish good communicatio with  his learners and to see that the language he/she uses is understood by each learner to enable learners give feedback and understand what is being taught.

However, there were different answers from other classes which also tried to anser the same question, some of which include the following:

The children learn most from their own experience.

Children need social skills to become good participants of life.
